Helen Keller was born at a house called Ivy Green, and there she learned to communicate with the outside world even though she was blind and deaf. The home of “America’s First Lady of Courage” includes much of the house’s original furniture, herb gardens, the famous water pump and a gift shop. Located in Tuscumbia, the significance of this remarkable woman can be seen in the names of nearby Keller Lane and Helen Keller Hospital.
